TV & MOVIE PROPS

Kouzu Shokai is engaged art direction, set decoration, and prop rental for a wide range of visual content in numerous genres, including dramas, infotainment programs, news programs, and variety programs that are produced by feature film studios and television broadcasters in the Osaka/Kyoto region, as well as commercials, broadcast satellite programs, streaming videos, and events. In all types of visual productions, our job is to give the featured characters a believable world to live in.
We interpret the world depicted in the script, hold numerous consultations with directors, designers, and other production staff, and procure and deploy props for every situation in accordance with budgets and shooting schedules.

We believe that careful attention to material selection and placement that leverages our prop techniques and knowledge is an important element in conveying an effective visual impression.
Our film business is divided into our Feature Film Division and our Television Division. Both play an important role on their respective shooting sets.

FEATURE FILM DIVISION

We rent historically accurate props, from armor and swords to furniture and household items, for use in feature films (theatrical and TV movies) produced at studios in Kyoto’s Uzumasa district.

From Japanese cinema’s earliest days to the present, props from Kouzu Shokai have been featured in countless film works.

TV DIVISION

We rent props and provide set dressing and art direction for dramas, information/variety shows, and news programs produced by broadcasters in the Osaka/Kyoto region.
We create the spaces required for a wide range of programs, from historical and contemporary dramas to spot events, such as morning TV drama series, Saturday evening dramas, and birdman contests.

VARIETY PROGRAM SET DRESSING

Variety program set dressing conveys the visions of set designers and directors through the medium of props. Period items and props with a well-used feel are sourced from warehouse staff. Items not available from the warehouse are sourced from interior shops and general retailers before prepping for use.
Non-existing items, imaginary publications, etc., may be made by other means, from hand crafting to use of computers.

DRAMATIC PROGRAM SET DRESSING

Dressing a drama set requires familiarity with the script to understand character personalities; holding numerous consultations with director, stage director, and designer; and for period dramas, conducting research on room decoration to express the feel of everyday life authentically.

ART DIRECTION

The job of art direction involves understanding the visions and intentions of directors and designers in order to coordinate overall visual appearance. Working on the frontline in collaboration with specialists in a wide range of fields, we transform the program into an artistic creation with added value.

The feeling of accomplishment one derives from creating a completed work as a team is an invaluable experience.
Moreover, one of the great attractions of this job is the chance to have many people see a work we were involved in.
